Finished up converting another site of mine over from WordPress to a Vanilla Forum. Thought the potential for others to start threads was worth the move. Not that I’m expecting much, but it’s worth a shot.
Turns out it works really well. I was able to upload all of the templates from the old site into the new forum in a few hours. That was after a few days of customizing the design. Vanilla makes it pretty easy to customize. Never having customized a Vanilla forum it did take quite a bit of Googling, but their theming is really organized and makes sense once everything clicks.
Originally I was going to use SMF, and even started putting a theme together. But I realized that the theme I was putting together looked a lot like Vanilla out of the box so it seemed like overkill. Plus, I was looking for an excuse to give something other than SMF a try.
The site is TikiTemplates.com and has a few dozen Photoshop templates all licensed under Creative Commons.
