Curves, or where I became frustrated
Next comes the part I had the most difficulty with; curved lines.
Create a new layer, and call it ‘curves’. Change to the curves layer.
Using the pen tool, draw a series of lines starting at :
- 4th vertical guide, 3rd horizontal
- 1st vertical, 4th horizontal
- 2nd vertical, 6th horizontal
- 1st vertical, 8th horizontal
- 2nd vertical, 10th horizontal
- 1st vertical, 12th horizontal
- 1st vertical, 2nd horizontal
- 4th vertical, 2nd horizontal
- 4th vertical, 3rd horizontal (the original point)
And close the shape by continuing your lines
That will give you an image like this…
Select the Convert Point tool, which is under the pen tool on the tool bar.
Mouse on top of point number 1 and drag horizontally to the 3rd vertical line.
Mouse on top of points 2 through 5 and drag vertically 1 guideline. You can skip point 6 because it will be cropped out of the final template.
This will give you the following image.
In the layer palette, right click on the curves layers and select ‘Rasterize Layer’. This will convert the layer from a vector to a bitmap. With the curves layer still selected, hold down control and select the gray layer. Both layers will be selected. Right click on the gray layer and select ‘Merge Layers’. Now your two layers are one, and we can work with them together.
[…] It happens about once a year. I get this urge to redesign one of my sites. And this one with its wavy lines just seemed due. So here is my new design. As you can probably tell I’m on a minimal design kick right now. […]
