Web Page Layout in Photoshop and ImageReady

Conclusion
At the end of the project, I’m happy with how my site looks. Sure, there’ll be some tweaks here and there. But, on the whole, I think it looks good.

But the real test is how it met the goals from the start of the project.

  1. Make the site mine – Well, I created all the graphics and code from scratch, so I know nobody has exactly the same site right now. I imagine it’s possible that someone will read this tutorial and make a site almost exactly the same, but I hope not; although I would be a little flattered.
  2. Drop junk out of the HTML – Done. Look at the sample HTML on the previous page. It’s short and sweet. Not a whole lot there for the actual layout. The majority of the code size will be the postings, and that’s the way it should be.
  3. Make the site more search engine friendly – Hopefully this happened, although I only updated the theme last night, so I don’t really have a way to check yet. The content is near the top of the code, so that should help. CSS is now external and the page size is smaller, both of which should help as well. But it’ll take time to know for sure.
  4. Learn how to do a layout in Photoshop – Done. I’m sure there’s more that I need to learn, but I think I got a pretty decent start with this project.
