Google giving suggestions for searches

Google has quietly added a new feature to their already popular search site called Google Suggest. As you type, Suggest gives a list of similar searches as ideas to further refine your search.

The site, still in beta, is an outstanding addition to the Google site. To be honest, when I first read about it I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal. So what, it gives you hints. But, after using it a couple of times, it’s outstanding.

While still falling in with the typical Google method of simplicity, Suggest adds a drop down box similar to the autocomplete feature in Internet Explorer. As you type, it fills the box with similar searches and tells you how many pages are returned for each of those searches. After that, it’s the normal Google. Results are returned, and you go from there.

But, the idea seems to be to narrow your search string down before you even have to run it. And that has made it much easier for me to find what I’m looking for.
