Late last month, CNet News.com officially began to support the TalkBack and PingBack standards in weblogs. This is a major step in large media outlets seeing value in blogs.

Typically, major media outlets and (for lack of a better term) minor media outlets have been divided. Most people go to the big sites like News.com, CBSNews.com, MSNBC.com, etc, for their news; whereas blogs normally only get niche visitors. By adding this support, CNet has boosted blogs validity in the news world. Admittedly, CNet is a technology oriented company, but it is great to see a big company that appears to be supporting blogs as a method of news reporting.

For the bloggers this is great news. In a world where any traffic is good, this opens opportunity for many bloggers to expand their traffic. Whether that traffic is for fun, for ego, or for advertising profits; no one is going to turn it down.
