Web Page Layout in Photoshop and ImageReady

Finally growing tired of the default Kubrick theme on my WordPress blog, I decided it was time to go for a face-lift.

Most of the page layouts I’ve done in the past have been done with HTML and CSS, but only enough graphics for the logo and a few small images just to keep it interesting. So, all my designs wound up with borders and colors, but no real interest.

SimpleViewer – Automatic building of the XML file

For those that have never used SimpleViewer, it’s a free Flash application that makes great portfolio pages.

To start, I wanted an easier way to update my gallery. I didn’t like the idea of having to rewrite the page or rebuild the gallery every time I wanted to add a picture. So I wanted to make it as automated as possible. Ideally I should be able to upload a full sized image and a thumbnail and the script take care of the rest, and it does.

Website Promotion Part III: Links

Links from other sites
If you have access to your web server logs the referrer information can be extremely useful in determining what sites link to yours. Many of the referrers will be search engines which we’ll discuss next time, but there will also be links from other sites.

For this part of our discussion, we’re going to look at 4 different types of links; directories, paid links, reciprocal links, and natural links; plus a few miscellaneous types at the end.
