Add a false window to your wall

If you’ve got an empty wall begging for a window but don’t want to break out the saw to put one in, or just can’t, you might want to look at one of these. It’s a set of blinds with lighting behind to simulate a window where one doesn’t exist.

I, and 3 million other people from the Texas gulf coast, decided that it wasn’t worth the risk of staying with Rita bearing down. As it turns out, my house came out undamaged and all I have is the experience of 12.5 hours in the car in what should have been a 2.5 hour drive to Austin. If you have a morbid sense of curiosity and want to see what 3 million people driving down 2 interstate highways looks like, I took along my camera and posted a dozen or so images from the drive. Fortunately, I was stopped often enough where I wasn’t a safety hazard.

McDonalds employees being paid to do homework

Kathy and Jerry Olinik, owners of 2 McDonalds restaurants in Michigan, are making their employees do their homework. The 30 high school students employed by the Oliniks are asked to do their homework for an hour either before or after their shift, but are still on the clock. They decided to do this to form a “happy medium” between a student having to decide between good grades and getting a job.

Just in case you don’t believe it, look at the picture. I was going to stick a $1.99 picture I took with my phone, but I saw this on the way to dinner. If you’re in Houston, the gas station is a Diamond Shamrock at the corner of Hwy 6 and Memorial.

Wait Wear fighting for virginity in Vegas

Yvette Thomas took a stand against the sin-filled image of Las Vegas renting a booth for her Wait Wear line of clothing at the MAGIC Marketplace. MAGIC Marketplace, an intimate apparel trade show, draws an estimated 93,000 visitors. At the Wait Wear booth, Thomas quietly sat and sold t-shirts and panties with slogans such as “Virginity Lane: Exit When Married” and “No vows, no sex”. Read the rest of this entry »
