20 years ago this month the first PC virus, Brain.A, was discovered.
While the boot-sector style of virus, of which Brain.A is a member, is long extinct it set in motion the problem of computer viruses with over 150,000 known today.
I know ‘Google Bombing’ is an old term. But I found a posting about it on the Google Blog. What I found most interesting is that while they admit it’s a problem, they won’t hand fix the bombed searches.
If you want to try it out, search for failure or miserable failure on Google. Both of them bring up the White House biography of George Bush; or at least do as I’m writing this. What happens is that people get together and tag links to that particular page with the phrases ‘failure’ and ‘miserable failure’ so that search engine robots pick up on those phrases and tie them to the Bush biography page.
